BCKSEET Productions announces its first-ever Repertory Company Season For Immediate Release: August 7, 2008
BCKSEET Productions announces its first-ever Repertory Company Season. The same nine actors will portray nineteen roles over four productions throughout the year. Lake Street Extension 9.25 - 10.18 Disturbing and poignant, Lee Blessing's Lake Street Extension opens the season with a run from September 25 to October 18, 2008. When young El Salvadorian seeks refuge in the home of a religiously reformed man, he is surprised to discover a rivalry with the estranged nineteen-year-old son of his host. While each man fights his own personal war, who can say which crimes are greater: those in the home or those abroad? Show contains mature themes and nudity. The Eight: Reindeer Monologues 12.5 - 12.31 Back by popular demand, ring in the holidays with Jeff Goode's sardonically irreverent The Eight: Reindeer Monologues this December. This black comedy follows eight disgruntled deer as they unpack Santa's baggage: presents, intoxication and leather straps. If the holidays drive you to drink, welcome home. Salt licks are better enjoyed by 18+; leave the fawns at home. Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll 2.18 - 3.15 What better way to spend February's month of love than with Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll by Eric Bogosian? Running February 18 - March 15, 2009, this one-handed tour de force dissects the generations nurtured by Rock 'n Roll, strips off their leather pants and unplugs their fenders. Don't miss the opportunity to see BCKSEET's artistic director tackle a dozen characters in a play that "shakes the cage of a complacent country engulfed by homelessness to ask just exactly who, if anyone, is home" - Frank Rich, New York Times. Raised in Captivity 4.15 - 5.9 Spring cleaning got you down? Come air out the closets with a family that may be more neurotic than yours in Nicky Silver's Raised in Captivity, slated for April 15 - May 9, 2009. Combine the hubris of a Greek Drama, the neuroses of a typical American family and the acerbic wit of Main Line man Nicky Silver. Throw in a dash of murder-by-shower-head, attempted-murder-by-hired-prostitute and pen-pal-ing-with-murderer-on-death-row, and begin to taste what it means to be Raised in Captivity. Add a pinch of unplanned pregnancy, a dash of disillusioned dentistry and a touch of guilty therapist self-induced blindness. Simmer. Sates adult palates best, though you need not be mature to enjoy. BCKSEET's Education Program, The Company... In addition to a full season, BCKSEET also launches its education program this fall with course offerings for adult and for teen students. See www.bckseet.com for more details. These six-week workshops include an additional meeting to view the fall production of Lake Street Extension with a talk-back between the class and cast. BCKSEET is committed to offering the opportunity and means to excel in the arts, challenging each student to meet professional artistic standards. Sixteen artists will be working on BCKSEET's Repertory Company Season, making not only the acting company, but the production design team, a repertory company as well. Artistic director, Greg DeCandia, will star in The Eight and Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll, but will also direct both Lake Street Extension and Raised in Captivity. Area University professor, Andrew Borthwick-Leslie, will direct Sex, Drugs & Rock & Roll and star in both Lake Street Extension and The Eight. Each person involved in the season will be seen tackling a variety of tasks from sound design and acting to choreography and publicity.
